Maria Schrader, the Emmy-winning director of the Netflix series “Unorthodox,” is set to direct Carey Mulligan and Zoe Kazan, who will play the Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times journalists who broke the bombshell Harvey Weinstein sex scandal report in Universal Pictures’ “She Said”.
According to Deadline, the studio is in negotiations with Megan Twohey and Jodi Kantor to play Twohey and Kantor, respectively. Rebecca Lenkiewicz, the screenwriter of the Oscar-winning Polish film “Ida,” will pen the adaptation.
In October 5, 2017 Kantor and Twohey revealed an array of alleged sexual harassment and assaults against women by The Weinstein Company co-chairman and indie film mogul Weinstein, misdeeds that dated back decades.
In 2018, Annapurna Pictures and Plan B Entertainment optioned the rights to ”She Said” under their co-production deal. Oscar nominee Megan Ellison will executive produce for Annapurna with Sue Naegle. Oscar winners Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner will produce for Plan B.
“She Said” reunites Mulligan (“Promising Young Woman”, “Drive”) and Kazan (“Ruby Sparks”, “The Plot Against America”) on their third project.
