In 1962, the brothers Theo and Karl Albrecht opened Germany’s first Albrecht discount. ALDI was born, but who were these brothers who set up the largest trading company in the history of Germany?

ALDI is a global brand. But who is behind it? After the Second World War, the brothers Theo and Karl Albrecht take over their mother’s “Karl Albrecht grocery store” and turn it into a self-service shop. In the northeast of Essen, where you have to work hard for little money, a promising business principle. As the economic miracle picks up speed, the Albrecht Catholic brothers remain modest and industrious. But in the course of this  immense expansion tensions arise and as a result, Theo and Karl Albrecht divide the Federal Republic of Germany into ALDI NORD and ALDI SOUTH. The trade empire continues to grow, as does its wealth. The Albrecht brothers live in seclusion, the public learns little about them. This changes when, in November 1971, the younger of the brothers, Theo Albrecht, is kidnapped for 17 days. After this, the life of Albrecht is different. The exciting movie portrays for the first time the life of the family behind the company ALDI.
