500th Anniversary of the Protestant Reformation!
The year 2017 marks 500 years since a stubborn monk and towering thinker, Martin Luther, published his 95 theses or complaints against the Catholic Church and launched the Protestant Reformation, a momentous religious revolution whose consequences we still live with today. The Reformation divided the Western church and transformed millions of people’s understanding of their relationship with God.
Five hundred years ago a revolutionary priest changed the face of Christendom and the path of European civilisation forever.
Risking his life, academic reputation and facing damnation for his beliefs, one man took a stand against the all-powerful Catholic Church and the Western World was never to be the same again. Marking the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, this is the story of Martin Luther, the visionary reformer and one of the most important religious figures in history who changed the beliefs of society at a time when the Catholic Church dominated every discussion and public opinion.
Reformation tracks Luther’s growing anger at the corruption and hypocrisy of Church’s hierarchy in the early 16th century, which eventually turns him into a revolutionary. From his ex-communication and his ‘there is a false church and a real church’ speech to his infamous pinning of his 95 theses to the church door in Wittenberg, this compelling drama reveals Luther to be neither saint or zealot, but rather a man of his time, driven to do what he believed was right.
